Embrace Stillness

Journey Through Winter’s Darkness

The darkest week of the year is upon us; winter settles around us in a dark stillness. The earth is resting and growing ever so quiet. As the earth’s elements begin to decompose, we have the opportunity to rest and renew in the silent darkness of night.

Yogic practices remind us that we are composed of the same elements as the earth—we are part of nature. Nature, our ever-present teacher, invites us to embrace stillness and to process the events and emotions of the year so we may begin anew as the light gradually returns.

As we navigate this time of reflection and celebration, I invite you to consider these questions:

  • How would incorporating stillness into my day benefit me physically, mentally, and psycho-spiritually?
  • What do I want to create or shift by intentionally pausing?
  • What resources (such as journaling, nature, or yoga practices) could help me use the dark days of winter to reflect, contemplate, and rest?

This Thursday at 7 p.m., we will unite in practice, Honoring the Winter Solstice: Pranayama, Meditation, and Deep Rest, to be with the darkness and celebrate the coming return of the light. I hope you will join us.

Jai Bhagwan,

Susan
