From Stuck to Awestruck
I’ve returned from my travels out west, renewed mentally, physically tired yet stronger, and reflective—many of the most significant decisions I’ve made come while hiking. Step, step, step, somehow, without gnawing on a thought, clarity comes.
Pictured above is Williams Lake, a high alpine lake above 11,000 feet. The path up was narrow and steep, and my lungs, unaccustomed to the altitude, required many stops. Throughout the hike, my thought process tunneled into a repetitive rumination on whatever occupied me that day.
The opening at the pass felt sudden as the trail expanded to a wide, rocky crevasse above this high alpine scene. The panoramic view was so spectacular I began to weep–awestruck by the beauty combined with the sudden opening of a new visual and mental perspective. I felt deeply at one with nature, anchored in the moment, expansive.
Yoga philosophy teaches us that Oneness with all is our true nature, accessible through practice. When our mind becomes stuck in a rut—like a path walked a million times—practice offers us insight and the technology to break through to The Now; no hiking required.
