Find deep rest in this special series as we explore restorative practices, calming pranayama and relaxation. Restorative yoga is a specialized practice for those who desire deep relaxation, rest, nurturing and restoration. This special manner of practicing utilizes cushions, blankets and chairs to completely support the body through a selected sequence of postures. Through calming breathwork and restorative postures, restorative yoga offers access to states of deep rest and renewal.

The Buddhist and yoga traditions both hold that it is possible to systematically cultivate feelings of loving-kindness, or what yoga philosophy refers to as “friendliness toward all beings.”  Loving-kindness, or metta, can also be translated as care, goodwill, and benevolence. This simple seated meditation practice cultivates inner balance, happiness, and equanimity, as well as compassion and sympathetic joy.  During this practice experience we will begin with discussion and gently open the body with a short yoga practice before sharing a guided practice of Loving-Kindness meditation together.

Yin Yoga is a complementary yoga practice to the more dynamic and invigorating yoga styles that are predominant today. In Yin Yoga, floor postures are held passively for several minutes in order to open the deep layers of connective tissue in the body. This practice emphasizes stillness and silence and prepares both the body and the mind for deeper experiences in meditation.
