Therapeutic Yoga is a specialized approach to healing that combines gentle and restorative yogic movements with breath-work, awareness, and assisted hands–on manual adjustments. It is different than physical therapy, or any other “treatment-focused” therapy, as it is designed to foster and promote your body’s own healing response, as opposed to “trying to fix” any problem or part of you. In this workshop, Brockell will share an in depth study of the anatomy of the low back, the pelvis, and the hip. You will learn a therapeutic home-practice sequence that is aimed at alleviating pain and addressing structural imbalances.

Go beyond a superficial asana experience and reveal the deeper layers of our human experience. In this floor-based practice, guided meditation techniques and slow, sliding and gliding movements are used to unlock and explore the sensations and emotions of the subtle body. Each week will focus on a different area of the body such as feet and legs, hips and low back, spine and shoulders, neck and head. The experience is taken deeper through extended time for deep rest and integration in savasana. In this exploration, we will seek to access deeply imbedded sensations and somatic patterns and unfold them from the inside out. You will gain tools for cultivating a deep and sensitive somatic awareness, making room for more potency and possibility of feeling in your asana practice and your everyday life.

The yoga tradition teaches that Savasana is the most important part of a yoga practice, yet many people struggle with finding comfort and rest in this pose. Whether you are falling asleep, worrying about what is for dinner, or mentally running through your to-do list, finding distractions in Savasana is an easy thing to do. In this extended practice, you will learn tools for fostering deep rest, relaxation, and integration that are essential to support your body’s process for letting go. You will learn why Savasana is so important to the nervous system, and explore a variety of options to prop your pose for comfort, allowing deep rest. This workshop will include slow, floor-based mindful movement “unwinding” exercises, guided meditation and body scanning, as well as an extended practice in Savasana itself.
